Soft Launch of the Cultural Places App: “Chattra Borobudur E-Guide”
Borobudur, December 14, 2017. PT Taman Wisata Candi Borobudur, Prambanan & Ratu Boko (TWC) is one of the state-owned companies that manages the tourism area, where the tourism product is the World Cultural Heritage site, namely Borobudur Temple. For that reason, in line with the vision and mission of managing and developing Borobudur Temple tourism, TWC also has the responsibility to participate in maintaining the integrity and conservation of Borobudur Temple. For TWC, the tourism business and conservation are two sides of the same coin that must be maintained sustainably. Business and conservation need to be handled with the help of adequate, integrated and up-to-date Information Technology (IT).
As part of its efforts to educate visitors, TWC provides a Digital Guiding and Visitor Management application in partnership with an Austrian company, Oroundo International. The application, called Cultural Places: “Chattra Borobudur E-Guide,” will be operated throughout the Borobudur Temple area. It will automatically explain the description of an object/relief when approaching a specific area with Bluetooth connectivity. Equipped with a transmitter technology in the form of a small Bluetooth Microchip, this application ensures that the content displayed at the location is accurate. In addition, this application also provides convenience and a source of accurate and reliable information on tourism and cultural attractions. Presented in the form of text descriptions, audio guides, photos, and navigation maps, this application can be downloaded on Playstore and Appstore. By using this technology, visitors are facilitated in touring Borobudur Temple, because this application is able to act as a private tour guide for visitors during their visit to Borobudur Temple through several available points. Visitors can enjoy the convenience of exploring Borobudur with “Chattra Borobudur E-Guide” by Oroundo. The implementation of this Digital Guiding and Visitor Management application certainly provides many benefits and conveniences for tourists, including users can see several points at the Borobudur Temple location using Bluetooth beacon technology, users are guided virtually and given information about Borobudur Temple such as history, reliefs and events held at Borobudur, users can order tickets for special events held at Borobudur Temple online, users can view the Borobudur Temple video channel contained in the application, users can access the Borobudur Temple site map.
This Digital Guidance is expected to elevate Borobudur's tourism profile by implementing digital technology to provide information to visitors. Furthermore, the Visitor Management feature in this application directly impacts internally and externally, achieving the conservation goals of the National Heritage Heritage, namely Borobudur Temple. Through this positive collaboration between "Chattra Borobudur E-Guide" by Oroundo and Borobudur, it is hoped that this will provide a unique experience when visiting Borobudur, increase tourist attraction, and provide an educational and informative tour.
