Borobudur Night 2017
On New Year's Eve 2017 to 2018, Borobudur Temple Tourism Park held the Borobudur Nite event with the theme Amazingly Wonderful. This event combines Music, Art, Culture, Lantern. Organized by promoter Gathaya and sponsored by various state-owned and private companies including PT. Jasa Raharja, PT. Askrindo, PT. Jamkrindo and PT. Jasa Marga. Enlivened by musical entertainment from Nico, Kevin & The Red Rose, Diva Indonesia Andien with accompaniment Java Ensemble & Orchestra. Cultural treats include performances from Gaharu Nusantara with a stunning fashion show for the Festival Parade.
At the culmination of the event, 2.500 lanterns lit up the sky above Borobudur Temple, just in time for New Year's Eve. Visitors to "Borobudur Nite" launched the lanterns in the Aksobya courtyard of the Borobudur Temple Tourism Park complex. Prior to the lantern release, the main torch was lit by five religious leaders: Islam, Christianity, Catholicism, Buddhism, and Hinduism. Thousands of visitors then lit candles provided by the committee.
After that, one by one the representatives of the religious leaders offered prayers for safety and success in 2018. Before the lantern release, Borobudur Nite visitors were asked to be silent for a moment, then write prayers and hopes on pieces of paper and then stick them on the lanterns that will be flown. A few minutes before the lantern release, visitors were given the signal to light the wicks on the lanterns and at exactly 24.00 WIB the lanterns were flown together.
The Director of Borobudur, Prambanan, and Ratu Boko Temple Tourism Park, Edy Setijono, said that the release of lanterns could symbolize letting go of bad things and praying for good things to come in the future. In addition, he said, the release of lanterns also symbolizes the diversity that exists together, one of which is the five religious leaders praying for each other for good in 2018, especially for the good of Indonesia. "In the future, Indonesia must be better by making differences our wealth. Behind the differences, there is certainly one that we can synergize to build hope together in 2018," he said.
