De Tjolomadoe, Sugar Factory Now Transformed Into New Tourist Destination
The Colomadu Sugar Factory has been revitalized into a tourist attraction and commercial area. Its name has now changed to De Tjolomadoe. It was originally called the Colomadu Sugar Factory. It was established in 1861 in Karanganyar by Mangkunegaran IV. In 1928, the factory underwent an expansion of the sugarcane plantation area and architectural renovation.
In 2017, PT PP (Persero) Tbk, PT PP Properti Tbk, PT Taman Wisata Candi Borobudur, Prambanan and Ratu Boko (Persero), and PT Jasa Marga Properti formed a Joint Venture under the name of PT Sinergi Colomadu to carry out revitalization construction by following cultural heritage principles.
The groundbreaking was held on April 8, 2017. The feasibility study involved various experts in the fields of architecture, history, and culture to transform the abandoned sugar factory into an area worthy of being visited by tourists and at the same time make it a commercial area.
The former PG Colomadu building covering 1,3 ha on 6,4 ha of land has begun to be revitalized while maintaining the existing historical value and wealth. The giant sugar factory machines are maintained to provide historical insight for visitors.
Apart from the museum, De Tjolomadoe also has a venue which will consist of a number of rooms named after the original names of the rooms when they were PG Colomadu.
In De Tjolomadoe, tourists will see firsthand the condition of the sugar factory with German-made machines that still survive. There is also an exhibition space and a cafe. The atmosphere of the sugar factory is still maintained.
It is guaranteed that visitors or tourists will feel comfortable in De Tjolomadoe with its high roof and air conditioning. In the future, PT Sinergi Colomadu will collaborate with various parties such as Asita and the Tourism Office to hold various tourism activities in De Tjolomadoe.
It is possible that cruise ship tourists when arriving in Semarang go directly to De Tjolomadoe. Or foreign tourists who have visited Borobudur Temple, Prambanan Temple are directed to this sugar factory.
