2018 Asian Games Flame From India Received By Sleman Regent At Ratu Boko Palace

The 2018 Asian Games event is a special moment for Sleman. Because, Sleman is the first place where the Asian Games torch arrives and also hosts the moment of the unification of the Eternal Flame brought from India with the Eternal Flame from Mrapen, Grobongan, Central Java.

For the unification of the fire itself, it began with the handover of fire from India to the Sleman Regency Government at the Ratu Boko Palace. After that, the fire was taken to Prambanan Temple to be united with the eternal fire from Mrapen, Grobongan.

The 2018 Asian Games torch was taken directly from India. The flame arrived in Indonesia for the first time and landed in Yogyakarta on Tuesday (17/7).

The flame was carried by Indonesian badminton legend Susi Susanti. Assisted by a team from the Indonesian Air Force, the Asian Games torch from India was flown to Indonesia using a Boeing 737 aircraft. The 2018 Asian Games flame was placed in a special container called the Tinder Box.

Today, Wednesday, July 18, 2018, the eternal flame from India was handed over to the Regent of Sleman Sri Purnomo at the Ratu Boko Palace. This flame will later be united with the eternal flame from Mrapen, Central Java at Prambanan Temple by Vice President Jusuf Kalla this evening.

"Sleman was chosen as the starting point for the 2018 Asian Games, starting with bringing the torch from India to Sleman, then uniting the fire from India and from Mrapen in Prambanan. We are grateful and it signifies that Sleman is the most priority and most attractive tourist destination," said Sleman Regent Sri Purnomo.

Sri Purnomo felt grateful and thankful because Ratu Boko in Sleman was chosen as one of the places to hand over the eternal flame from India as part of a series of events ahead of the 2018 Asian Games.

“Ratu Boko is part of a temple tourism destination that is highly regarded for Indonesian tourism. This also raises the image of Indonesian tourism, especially in Sleman district. It has been decided to be part of a place to hand over the fire from India and then it will be brought to Prambanan to be united with the fire from Mrapen. This is already part of a national decision. We are grateful and thankful that Sleman is getting attention,” added Sri Purnomo.
