Mariah Carey performs stunningly at Borobudur Temple
Thousands of spectators at Lumbini Park, the Borobudur temple complex in Magelang, Central Java, erupted in joy as global diva Mariah Carey appeared on stage. A piano accompanied Carey as she sang her debut song, "Fly Away," from her album Butterfly, during her performance on November 6, 2018.
Mariah Carey, now 48 years old, performed at the “Himbara Borobudur Symphony 2018 – Mariah Carey Live in Concert” event, asking the audience to become “Butterflies” and soar into the sky in joy. The approximately 7.000 people who attended the evening’s show became butterflies for about 90 minutes to enjoy the 18-song performance. They were visibly delighted by the golden-voiced singer’s performance and were also very fortunate that the rain stopped just as the show began. Mariah Carey shared the same joy of performing with the world heritage site of Borobudur Temple as her backdrop, with beautiful lighting showcasing the magnificent 9th-century structure.
"What an incredible experience to perform in front of the beautiful Borobudur Temple. Thank you so much for such a wonderful event, Indonesia," Carey wrote on her Twitter account @MariahCarey.
During the hour-and-a-half show, Carey, who has released 15 albums since 1990, didn't interact much with the audience. She only gave brief introductions before each song. "Thank you," Mariah Carey said before singing her sixth song of the night, "Always Be My Baby." Four male dancers named Madison, Terrell, Christopher, and Lanier accompanied Carey with energetic moves, bringing the stage to life amidst the singer's poised and elegant performance. Right from the first song, the audience enjoyed the music, accompanied by the three backing vocalists. They sang along as Mariah Carey performed songs like "One Sweet Day" and "I Don't Want to Cry."
Mariah Carey – who was born in Huntington, New York – changed costumes twice during the show, changing from a long black dress to a short black dress and then finally into a golden yellow dress. Around 10 p.m., Carey ended with “We Belong Together.” She went backstage, but the audience screamed for more, repeatedly, and she eventually returned for an encore. The singer, who has also starred in 16 films, then sang her hit “Hero,” a Billboard Hot 100 song released in October 1993.
Meanwhile, the President Director of PT Taman Wisata Candi Borobudur, Prambanan and Ratu Boko, Edy Setijono, said that Himbara Borobudur Symphony 2018 – Mariah Carey Live In Concert was held to attract more tourists to the Borobudur world heritage site and to further promote it to the international world.
