Ramayana Ballet Open Air Premiere Performance

Since the pandemic hit Indonesia in 2020, the colossal Ramayana Ballet performance has been performed in a limited manner in accordance with strict health protocols. Various rules attached to the performance make it carried out carefully and prioritize the comfort and safety of all parties.

The improving conditions, marked by a decline in the number of cases of transmission and driven by a high vaccination rate, have become a breath of fresh air for the management to re-present the show that was first staged on July 26, 1961.

PT Taman Wisata Candi Borobudur, Prambanan & Ratu Boko through the Theater Pentas Unit is staging the Ramayana Open Air Ballet again. During the 2022 Eid holiday, the Ramayana Ballet will be staged for 3 days, on May 3, 5 and 7, 2022.

The enthusiasm of visitors to see the performance with the Prambanan Temple as the backdrop was quite high. One of the audience from Jakarta, Dina, admitted to being impressed with the Ramayana Ballet performance. She, who was seeing it for the first time, felt satisfied with the performance.

"I've wanted to come here for a long time and it turned out to be amazing. I was very impressed because it was really theatrical, the actors were also very talented. Overall it was really good, very satisfied and will watch it again, if I have the chance," he said after watching the Ramayana Ballet, Thursday (5/5/2022).

Visitors who came to the premiere of the Ramayana Ballet on the open stage on May 3, 2022, were 393 tourists. Meanwhile, on the second day of the show (April 5, 4), the show initiated by Lieutenant General TNI (ret.) GPH Djati Kusumo in April 2022 was watched by 1961 tourists.

"The enthusiasm of the audience was extraordinary, even VIPs also had many spectators and this was a surprise because we had not performed for two years and were actually still hesitant. But it turned out that the audience was extraordinary, both from outside the city such as West Java, Jakarta and also foreign tourists from America, India, Korea and France," said GM of the Prambanan Ramayana Pentas Theater Chrisnamurti Adiningrum in Prambanan, Sleman, Friday (6/5/2022).

The Pentas Theater Unit continues to present quality cultural performances as one of the tourist attractions in Yogyakarta. In addition to the Ramayana Ballet, there is also a Roro Jonggrang dance drama performance which is also popular with tourists.

"Hopefully this is a good start for us next. In the future, we are optimistic to see the number of audience enthusiasm. But what is certain is that tourists want Open Air again," he concluded.
