German President's Visit to Borobudur Temple

German President Frank-Walter Steinmeier visited Indonesia, emphasizing that Indonesia is a 'close and reliable partner' for Germany and Europe. Frank-Walter Steinmeier chose the Indo-Pacific region because it is very important for world trade. Indonesia as Chair of the G20 and Germany as Chair of the G7 this year, have great responsibilities in international cooperation.

Frank-Walter Steinmeier arrived in the Borobudur Temple area on Friday, June 17, 2022. It began with a visit to the Borobudur Conservation Center (BKB) Office to review the laboratory and directly observe the process of cleaning rocks with essential oils, and even review the drainage channels in Borobudur Temple. The arrival of the German President was welcomed by the Director General of Culture Hilmar Farid, Deputy Governor of Central Java Taj Yasin Maimoen, Head of the Borobudur Conservation Center Wiwit Kasiyati, Corporate Secretary of PT TWC AY Suhartanto, VP Marketing & Sales of PT TWC Pujo Suwarno and Acting Head Internal Auditor of PT TWC Aryono Hendro Malyanto.

Frank-Walter Steinmeier had the opportunity to visit Borobudur Temple accompanied by a Storyteller from the Borobudur Conservation Center, and using special footwear (Upanat) that is friendly to the rocks and stupas of the temple. While at Borobudur Temple, the Storyteller told about the history and development of Borobudur Temple, including the reliefs carved on the temple walls.

"It is an honor for TWC to receive the visit of the German President in the Borobudur Temple area. This is a good moment for the recovery of Indonesian tourism, considering that Germany is currently the Chair of the G7, where one of its main focuses is in the field of Global Economy," said President Director of PT TWC Edy Setijono.

During the visit of the German President, Borobudur Temple was closed for public tourism visits at 07.00–12.00 WIB. It is hoped that the visit of the German President can have a positive impact on the development of the Super Priority Tourism Destination (DPSP) Borobudur Temple.
