TWC Supports Telecommunication Tower Arrangement in Borobudur Area

The Ministry of Communication and Informatics will evaluate and rearrange telecommunications infrastructure in the Borobudur Temple area, Magelang, Central Java. This is part of the arrangement of the Borobudur Super Priority Tourism Destination (DPSP) area.

Later, as many as 22 telecommunication towers located in a radius of approximately 5 km from Borobudur Temple will be rearranged. The height of the towers will be set to a maximum level with the Arupadhatu terrace (the highest floor) at Borobudur Temple or a height of 283 meters above sea level. 

This was conveyed directly by the Minister of Communication and Information, Johnny G Plate, during his visit to the Borobudur Temple Tourism Park, Magelang, Central Java, Thursday (14/7/2022).

"This working visit is in the context of implementing the re-arrangement of the Borobudur Temple area so that it becomes an integrated area, has a new face, new management and new supporting infrastructure. The arrangement of the Borobudur Temple area is carried out comprehensively including physical infrastructure, roads and physical facilities and digital infrastructure," said Johnny.

The Minister of Communication and Information and his entourage checked the height of the towers from the top floor of the UNESCO World Heritage Buddhist temple. His visit was to ensure and see firsthand the arrangements of the digital physical infrastructure that had to be reorganized. 

According to him, cellular operators and telecommunication tower operators have a shared commitment to redesign communication towers in the Borobudur Temple area. "We hope that this development is also part of the unity of the reorganization and beautification of the Borobudur Temple area," said Johnny.

The Minister of Communication and Information said that the arrangement of Borobudur Temple is not solely for the sake of cultural heritage, but also part of the tourism industry. This is in accordance with the instructions of President Joko Widodo who wants the arrangement related to cultural heritage to be given serious attention. This is so that development into a super priority tourism area can also be achieved.

"With the hope that the involvement of the tourism ecosystem can truly take part in it, including specifically paying attention to small, medium and micro businesses," he said.

Meanwhile, VP Marketing & Sales PT TWC Pujo Suwarno said that the arrangement in this area needs to be supported by all related parties. This step will later provide comfort and freedom of view for tourists to see the legacy of the Syailendra Dynasty.

"We fully support the arrangement program in the area which will clearly affect the view in the Borobudur area to be neater," he said.
