PT TWC Encourages Capacity Building of Talents & Interests of Blind People in DI Yogyakarta
PT Taman Wisata Candi Borobudur, Prambanan & Ratu Boko also plays a role in encouraging capacity building for the disabled in DI Yogyakarta. One of the efforts made is by holding intensive training to hone massage skills, playing music and hosting for the visually impaired at the University Hotel Yogyakarta.
The activity, which was held from 29-30 August 2022, aims to increase the economic independence of the disabled. This also plays a role in helping the economic recovery process in the post-pandemic era.
For two consecutive days, they were given intensive training in the form of useful materials to develop their talents and hone their talents, as provisions to become empowered and independent. While the participants, totaling 17 people, came from the Jaya Musik Malioboro community and also nine students of MAN II Sleman, Yogyakarta.
This training was opened directly by Corporate Secretary of PT TWC AY Suhartanto together with Secretary of Social Service of Yogyakarta Special Region Suyarno, Chairman of Social Service Council (MPS) Muhammadiyah Yogyakarta Special Region Ridwan Furqoni and Plt TJSL & SME Founding Manager of PT TWC Ismiyati. The activity was carried out thanks to the cooperation between PT TWC and Social Service Council (MPS) Muhammadiyah DIY.
Corporate Secretary of PT TWC AY Suhartanto said that this activity has become an obligation that upholds and implements the AKHLAK values in his company. As a BUMN company, PT TWC participates in developing the capacity of the disabled and building an inclusive economic ecosystem.
"It takes a joint commitment to make it happen. There needs to be active synergy between government agencies, BUMN and the private sector in pushing deeper to accelerate the realization of an inclusive economy for people with disabilities to be independent in the economic sector," he explained.
Secretary of the Yogyakarta Special Region Social Service Suyarno explained that Indonesia has participated in ratifying the United Nations Convention on the rights of persons with disabilities. However, in its implementation there are still many limitations and challenges faced together in improving the welfare of these disabled people.
"The government cannot do it alone. The private sector and community groups must work together to improve the dignity of these disabled people. This training is a form of synergy that initiates steps in helping the disabled people in the future," he explained.
The Head of the Muhammadiyah Social Service Council (MPS) of Yogyakarta Special Region, Ridwan Furqoni, explained that this program will be continued with a Follow-up Action Plan (RTL) to align the objectives in developing the potential and capacity of people with disabilities in the future.
"This RTL can later become a guideline in determining future steps related to assistance that can increase the capacity of friends with disabilities for future provisions," he said.
One of the training participants, Nur Eko Prasetyo (16 years old) said that the massage technique taught by the instructor during the training was quite comprehensive. He, who was learning massage for the first time, admitted that he was interested in deepening the massage technique as a provision for the future.
"The training was very good, it has increased my knowledge. Because I personally do not really understand massage training, it was my first time joining so it might be something new. The benefits are also very many," said the student of class XII MAN II Sleman.
One of the members of Jaya Musik Malioboro Dedy Sufiyandi (40 years old) admitted to gaining new knowledge in playing music in a group. Dedy, who works as a bass player in the band Askara Tunanetra, hopes to be given the opportunity to perform to entertain tourists at tourist destinations, especially those managed by PT TWC.
"Hopefully we will be given the opportunity to visit the temple tourist spot, which of course can help us meet our daily needs," he said.
