PABBAJJA SAMANERA TEMPORARY BOROBUDUR, A SYMBOL OF RELIGIOUS TOLERANCE IN INDONESIA

The existence of Borobudur Temple as a historical site can still be utilized by Indonesian Buddhists for worship activities as well as self-training towards moral and spiritual enlightenment. Borobudur Temple is not only a monument, but also a site that equates aspects of spiritual enlightenment for people who visit.
This was stated in the implementation of the Temporary Pabbajja Samanera, which is a form of introduction to monastic life, as well as moral and spiritual training in Buddhism. The activity, which took place on December 15-25 in the Borobudur Temple Tourism Park area, was attended by around 500 participants from various regions in Indonesia, including from North Sumatra, Jambi, Lampung, Banten, Jakarta, West Java, Central Java, East Java, and Bali. In addition to Indonesia, they came from Russia, Thailand, Belgium, Australia, Malaysia, and others.
For ten days, Buddhists live the life of a Samanera, guided by the Bikkhu Sangha, namely leaving worldly life and studying religious knowledge, by carrying out spiritual processes.
This activity began with a hair cutting procession, pradaksina and Samanera Ordination. Then, on Sunday (18/12), the participants performed the Pindapatta procession and on Saturday (24/12) the Dhutanga procession was carried out. It is hoped that this training can provide inspiration, moral examples and positive contributions and improve the moral quality of Buddhists in Indonesia.
