Samudraraksa Ship Museum Wins Best “New Adaptation Museum” Award from Indonesia Museum Award 2022

Samudraraksa Ship Museum won an award at the 2022 Indonesia Museum Award for the Best New Adaptation Museum category. PT Taman Wisata Candi Borobudur, Prambanan and Ratu Boko (PT TWC) is committed to advancing Indonesian museums by presenting museums that are popular and relevant to the young generation of Indonesia.

Samudraraksa Ship Museum is a collective memory space for the maritime world in Indonesia. This museum compiles pieces of the Indonesian maritime history that are digitally visualized and attractive for the younger generation. Contains a replica of the Samudraraksa Ship and historical collections that tell the story of the maritime glory of the Indonesian nation.

The replica of the Samudraraksa ship was taken from the relief of Borobudur Temple, namely the Jataka - Avadana panel 86 relief in the form of a picture of a ship that has been equipped with sails and outriggers as a balancer and wave breaker. In 2003, the replica of the ship was realized to sail along the spice route from Indonesia to Madagascar and Ghana.

In 2018, the museum presented an interactive cinema “Petualangan Raka” in the form of a three-dimensional animation played on an LED screen. Visitors, especially children, are invited to learn about Indonesian maritime stories in a more interesting and interactive way.
