Borobudur Marathon 2023 Voice of Unity Successfully Held in the Borobudur Temple Area

A total of 10.453 runners will enliven the 2023 Borobudur Marathon event which will take place in Borobudur District, Magelang Regency, tomorrow (19/11/2023). Not only will it be attended by runners from various cities in Indonesia, the annual event will also be attended by runners from abroad.

"This has become an annual event. And in the future we hope it will continue to grow. The hope is that in the future it will become an international event," said Acting Governor of Central Java Nana Sudjana in a written statement, Saturday (18/11/2023).

This year, Borobudur Marathon carries the theme "Voice of Unity". Through this theme, the organizers want to invite runners, related parties, and the community to voice the spirit of victory and inspire each other with positive, unifying voices.

According to the plan, this year's race will be attended by 10.000 participants. They will compete in three categories, namely 10 km, 21 km, and 42 km. In addition, Bank Jateng Young Talent will also be held again as an effort to build the best ecosystem for the potential of young national athletes.

Before competing in Borobudur, the selected Bank Jateng Young Talent candidates were included in a boot camp. In this activity, the athletes who were accompanied by their coaches were tested for their physical endurance. In addition, they were also given materials related to strategies for maintaining physical and psychological health. The participants were also equipped with public speaking skills.

Various activities leading up to the Borobudur Marathon have also been held as a warm-up, such as the Bank Jateng Friendship Run and The Tour. The two running events were held in ten cities, namely Jakarta, Bandung, Semarang, Yogyakarta, Surabaya, Denpasar, Makassar, Palembang, Medan, and Banjarmasin. Participants in each city reached 1.000 people.

The Minister of Youth and Sports of the Republic of Indonesia (Menpora RI) Dito Ariotedjo released the runners who were divided into three categories, namely Marathon, Half Marathon, and 10K.

At exactly 05.00 WIB, the Minister of Youth and Sports raised the flag to mark the start of the seventh edition of the Borobudur Marathon. More than 10 thousand runners from both Indonesia and abroad participated in the running championship with a route around the Borobudur Temple area.

Minister of Youth and Sports Dito himself also ran to feel the atmosphere of the excitement of exercising in the environment of one of the world's wonder buildings. While witnessing the beauty of the Borobudur Temple tourist destination in the morning.

"This is my first time attending the Borobudur Marathon. The atmosphere is very magical because it is rare to see Borobudur early in the morning," said the Minister of Youth and Sports.

Meanwhile, GM of Borobudur Jamaludin Mawardi said that the presence of the Borobudur Marathon has always been a magnet for tourist visits which has had a major economic impact on the Borobudur area.

"Of course this encourages a large multiplier effect for the destination and also the surrounding community. This is in accordance with the goal of developing quality tourism in DPSP Borobudur," he concluded.
