Revitalization of Borobudur Temple Zone II Begins, Visitor Parking Temporarily Moved

Collaboration of various parties is the main key in the implementation of the revitalization of zone II of the Borobudur Temple area, Magelang, Central Java. This program is a close synergy between the Central Java Provincial Government, the Magelang Regency Regional Government, the Magelang Regency District Attorney's Office, InJourney Destination Management (IDM), Borobudur Forkopimcam, Borobudur Village Government and the surrounding community.

The revitalization of the Borobudur Temple zone II area began with the construction of a tourist vehicle parking area on May 1, 2024. This development is intended as a green open area and to restore the maximum basic building coefficient (KDB) in the Borobudur Temple area to 4%.

In addition, the development included in the National Strategic Program (PSN) is carried out as a form of developing a higher quality tourism experience in Super Priority Tourism Destinations.

The first stage of revitalization of zone II is the relocation of the parking area for tourist cars and buses to zone III of Borobudur Temple, namely the Janan Hamlet Field and the Ngaran Hamlet area, Borobudur with a capacity of around 140 to 150 4-wheeled and 6-wheeled vehicles. Meanwhile, tourist access is through Gate 1 of the Borobudur unit to go to the main gate area (ticketing area).

"We ensure that the current alternative parking area can accommodate all visitor vehicles," explained the spokesperson for PT Taman Wisata Candi Borobudur, Prambanan and Ratu Boko or InJourney Destination Management Ryan Eka Permana Sakti in Magelang, Wednesday (1/5/2024).

Visitors are allowed to drop off passengers (drop-off) through door 1 and then around to exit via door 2 to access the vehicle parking area. Meanwhile, the flow of visits in the Borobudur Temple Tourist Park area has been adjusted considering the first phase of revitalization, including the exit for visitors through gate 6 on the north side of the Karmawibangga Museum.

InJourney Destination Management has also written to travel agents who want to take prospective tourists to Borobudur Temple. That way, they can provide education and find out alternative parking locations.

"Because this is the first day, we are seeing if there are any obstacles. This new route, whether there are any obstacles from the vehicle side. And if it is deemed necessary to intervene in the visitor experience, then an intervention will be carried out," he explained.

General Manager of Borobudur Jamaludin Mawardi hopes that the parking rates at the temporary location managed by the community will be the same as the rates applicable in the Borobudur Temple Tourism Park complex and will not harm visitors.

Parking rates at the TWC Borobudur complex, for four-wheeled vehicles, are IDR 10.000 (weekday) and Rp. 15.000 (weekend). While six-wheeled vehicles are Rp. 25.000 (weekday) and Rp. 30.000 (weekend).

"TWC will try to ensure that parking managers in the two locations set the same rates as in the TWC area," he concluded.
