Collaboration in Developing Character-Based Tourism at Prambanan Temple

The development of Prambanan Temple as a spiritual destination continues to be developed as part of the concept of quality tourism in Indonesia. This concept is expected to provide an in-depth experience for tourists, while strengthening the cultural and historical values ​​it has.

InJourney Destination Management together with the Indonesian Ministry of Tourism collaborate to develop character tourism through various strategic steps, including a spiritual tourism program that actualizes the philosophical and historical meaning of Prambanan so that tourists understand the spiritual values ​​behind the splendor of the temple.

Deputy Minister of Tourism Ni Luh Puspa said that spirituality-oriented tourism does not only focus on physical exploration, but also on self-reflection, inner balance, and a more harmonious relationship with the local environment and culture.

As one of the largest Hindu temple complexes in Southeast Asia, Prambanan Temple has deep historical and spiritual values. Visitors who come to this place not only enjoy the beauty of the temple architecture, but also get the opportunity to reflect on the values ​​of life and interpret the journey more meaningfully.

The government, tourism industry players, and local communities play an important role in developing character-based tourism through various strategic steps, including the Spirituality Tourism Program – by presenting special tourism packages that invite tourists to take part in meditation, yoga, or cultural reflection sessions in the temple area. 

Local Community Involvement by developing tourism programs that involve local communities in activities such as art performances, traditional ceremonies, and culinary specialties that have cultural and spiritual values. Promotion of Consciousness-Based Tourism by emphasizing holistic experiences and on-the-go tourism.

PT TWC President Director Febrina Intan said that developing spiritual destinations such as Prambanan Temple will help create a more meaningful and sustainable tourism experience. 

“Spirituality-based tourism not only increases the number of tourist visits, but also encourages a richer quality of experience and provides benefits to local communities,” he said.

In addition to Prambanan Temple, the development of this concept is also applied in Borobudur-Yogyakarta-Prambanan as one integrated area, where tourists can take a journey that unites architectural beauty, cultural wisdom, and reflective experiences, thus realizing character tourism that is not only entertaining, but also enriches the soul.

"Through the support of various parties, it is hoped that Prambanan Temple can be increasingly recognized as a center of spiritual tourism in Indonesia and become an example of how cultural heritage destinations can provide added value through in-depth and meaningful tourism," he concluded.
