Collaboration to Accelerate Handling of Stunting Cases in Sleman Regency

According to the results of the 2023 Indonesian Health Survey published by the Indonesian Ministry of Health, the prevalence of stunting in Indonesia is currently at 21,5 percent. This figure is only down 0,1 percent from the 2022 Indonesian Toddler Nutritional Status Survey data of 21,6 percent. The realization of stunting reduction can be said to be still far from the target of 14 percent in 2024.

The problem of stunting is like homework that needs to be completed together. Efforts to eradicate stunting cases are also included in the Indonesian Government's National Medium-Term Development Plan (RPJMN). However, collaboration between various parties is needed to complete this challenge as a form of support for improving the welfare of the Indonesian people.

PT Taman Wisata Candi Borobudur, Prambanan and Ratu Boko present a nutritional assistance program for stunted children in Prambanan District, Sleman. This program synergizes directly with the National Population and Family Planning Agency (BKKBN) of Prambanan Sub-district, Sleman, Yogyakarta.

"Our involvement in accelerating the reduction of stunting is carried out through specific nutritional intervention efforts by providing nutritious food for the prevention and reduction of stunting. This is expected to improve the quality of child growth and development and support Indonesia's demographic bonus in 2030," explained TJSL & SME Funding Division Head IDM Ismiyati.

The provision of nutritious supplementary food (PMT) was carried out to 30 children who experienced or were at risk of stunting in Prambanan District for three consecutive months. This program is strengthened by health and nutrition education with direct socialization to parents regarding healthy eating patterns and children's nutritional needs.

Regular monitoring is carried out by the family support team (TPK) by measuring height and weight and providing counseling to ensure that the child's development is on target.

This program is also assisted by a family companion team (TPK) in each village as a facilitator of additional nutritional intake and to monitor children's development periodically. This is done to see the effectiveness of nutritional interventions provided through this program.

One of the TPK cadres, Nuning Partini said that PT TWC's initiative is a form of active participation as Foster Parents for Stunting Children in Prambanan. This nutritious and varied supplementary feeding (PMT) program helps provide proportional nutrition for families.

"We as cadres hope that this assistance will be very useful for our residents and hopefully in the future this program can continue and expand to families identified as stunting," he explained.

One of the beneficiary parents, Sari Susanti, said that the three-month nutritional supplement program helped increase her child's weight.

"This program is very helpful for my child's growth. His growth is healthier and his weight is growing. The menu is also very varied and also very tasty, so my child likes it and is enthusiastic when eating it," explained a resident of Gayamharjo Village, Prambanan, Sleman.

Family Planning Counselor (PKB) of Prambanan District, Sleman, Nurcahya Pipin Wijayanti, said that the factors causing stunting in Sleman Regency, apart from poverty, are also parenting patterns.

"The results of the study concluded that the cause of stunting is that poverty only contributes 5% while more than 90% is caused by various factors including parenting patterns," he explained.

He invited various stakeholders to be actively involved in eradicating stunting cases in Sleman Regency. This can be done by becoming a Foster Parent for Stunting Children which is one of the social actions and concerns from efforts to support the National Action Plan for the Acceleration of Reducing Stunting Rates in Indonesia 2021-2024 (RANPASTI).

"All stakeholders have their respective roles to help eradicate stunting cases in Sleman Regency in particular. Joint synergy must be improved, considering that handling stunting is our shared responsibility," he explained.

This accelerated stunting control program is expected to accelerate the eradication of stunting cases and improve the welfare of residents in Kapanewon Prambanan, Sleman, Yogyakarta.
