Visit of the President of the Republic of Indonesia and the President of France to Borobudur Temple
The President of the Republic of Indonesia, Prabowo Subianto, together with the President of the Republic of France, Emmanuel Macron, visited the Borobudur Temple area, Magelang Regency, Central Java Province, Thursday (29/5/2025).
This visit is part of a series of state visits by President Macron to Indonesia, and is also a symbol of the strong cultural relations and friendship between the two countries.
The two heads of state arrived at the UNESCO-recognized world heritage site to a warm welcome from local students dressed in traditional Javanese attire. The children enthusiastically waved Indonesian and French flags along the path leading to the temple complex.
President Prabowo and President Macron were seen wearing matching white shirts. Their presence attracted the attention of the public and tourists who witnessed this historic moment from a distance.
In his remarks, President Prabowo expressed his pride and gratitude for the visit of President Macron and First Lady Brigitte Macron to Borobudur Temple. He called the temple a masterpiece of civilization that is full of historical, cultural, and spiritual values.
"It is a great honor for us to receive His Majesty's visit to this historic site. Borobudur Temple is a masterpiece of civilization and has been designated by UNESCO as a world cultural heritage rich in meaning," said President Prabowo.
President Prabowo also emphasized that Indonesia as a nation that upholds the values of Pancasila always prioritizes tolerance and respect for religious, cultural and ethnic diversity.
"Indonesia and France are two great nations with strong historical and cultural roots. We share the same spirit: upholding the values of humanity, tolerance, and respect for all beliefs," he added.
President Prabowo stated that Indonesia–France cooperation is not only built on strategic interests, but is also rooted in shared humanitarian and cultural values.
"We believe that only through friendship, kinship and collaboration, we can all build a better and more peaceful life," he said.
Closing his remarks, President Prabowo expressed his belief that the partnership between the two countries would continue to grow, especially in the fields of culture, arts and creative industries.
"I am optimistic that our partnership will be a bridge for cultural figures, artists, creative industry players, and all people from both countries," he concluded.
