Prambanan Temple is a Magnet for Tourist Visits in Sleman Regency
Prambanan Temple, built by Sri Maharaja Rakai Pikatan in 850 AD, is still one of the favorite tourist destinations in Sleman Regency, DI Yogyakarta. According to data from the Sleman Regency Tourism Office (Dispar), Prambanan Temple is a favorite tourist destination in Sleman Regency, along with Kaliurang nature tourism and Ibarbo Park artificial tourism.
According to data from the Sleman Regency Tourism Office, the number of tourist visits to tourist destinations in Sleman Regency until May 31, 2025 was 3.510.750 visits.
"Temporary data up to May 31, visits to Sleman were above 3,5 million tourists, dominated by domestic tourists at 97,82 percent or equivalent to 3.434.215 visits. This number increased by 8,92 percent in the same period in 2024, with a total of 3.223.229 tourists," said Ishadi Zayid as quoted by Antara, Monday (10/6/2025).
The number of tourist visits is equivalent to 41,66 percent of the Tourism Office's target of 2025 tourists in 8.427.784. Meanwhile, domestic tourists still dominate visits to tourist attractions in Sleman Regency, amounting to 85,23 percent or 2.926.981 visits.
"Most of them are dominated by tourists from East Java, Central Java, Jakarta, West Java, and Banten," he explained.
Thousands of tourists visit the Prambanan Temple Tourism Park destination to spend the long holiday of the Ascension of Jesus Christ. The destination located on the border between DI Yogyakarta and Central Java recorded a significant increase in tourists during this long holiday.
GM Prambanan and Ratu Boko Ratno Timur said that visits during the long holiday of the Ascension of Jesus Christ increased two-fold compared to visits on normal days, where the Prambanan Temple Tourism Park is usually visited by seven thousand tourists every day.
"The visit during this long holiday was around 13 thousand tourists. This number has doubled from normal days which are usually visited by seven thousand tourists per day," he explained.
Meanwhile, the tourists who come are dominated by families and school students who come from various regions on the island of Java, including West Java, East Java, Banten, Jakarta and Central Java.
"Almost all visitors who come to Prambanan Temple are family groups or from companies who take advantage of the long holiday to travel to various regions," he explained.
One of the tourists from Jakarta, Herawati, explained that her visit with her family was to spend a long holiday while introducing cultural heritage destinations to her family.
"This visit is to introduce my child to Borobudur Temple and also Prambanan Temple, while on a long holiday, with relatives and family. Hopefully this can come here again and be even better, this is already good, happy and we are satisfied," he concluded.
