The Visit of the Deputy Chairman of the MPR RI to Open Borobudur Culturepreneur at the Borobudur Temple Tourism Park

Edhie Baskoro Yudhoyono (Ibas), Deputy Speaker of the People's Consultative Assembly (MPR) and Chairman of the Democratic Party Faction in the House of Representatives (DPR), visited the Borobudur Temple Tourism Park in Magelang, Central Java, on Wednesday (August 27, 8). The visit demonstrated his support for this world-class cultural area and tourism destination.

During this visit, he urged Indonesia's younger generation to become key players in a future economy rooted in culture, history, and national identity. He delivered this during a national discussion forum titled "Borobudur Culturepreneur: Strengthening the Creative Economy Based on Culture and History," held at the Borobudur Temple complex in Magelang, Central Java.

The Deputy Chairman of the Kadin Advisory Board delivered three key messages to spark discussions on creative economic development. First, he stated that culture is the foundation of a sustainable economy.

"Culture is the oldest form of sustainability, passed down across generations. In the digital age, culture can become a valuable commodity, like batik, wayang, music, and culinary arts. When cultivated creatively, culture becomes a source of livelihood and pride. A strong nation has a story, a story about who it is," Ibas explained.

The Deputy Chairman of the Democratic Party emphasized the importance of synergy between various stakeholders to create a dynamic and inclusive creative economy ecosystem.

"The government acts as a facilitator, the business world as an accelerator, academics as researchers, communities as drivers, and the younger generation as innovators. Creativity is born from the intersection of ideas and the advancement of collaboration," he explained.

Accompanied by Mardijono Nugroho, Director of PT Taman Wisata Borobudur, Ibas visited local MSMEs selling unique products such as batik, pottery, bamboo weaving, and other traditional souvenirs in the Borobudur Art Village area.

He also had a direct dialogue, listened to aspirations and encouraged creative economy actors who helped maintain the pulse of the people's economy in the Borobudur area.

"MSMEs are the backbone of our economy. They not only trade but also preserve the nation's cultural heritage. We must continue to support the Borobudur area so that it becomes world-famous not only for its temples, but also for its people," said Ibas.

Ibas' visit then continued with exploring the Borobudur Museum, listening to artifacts and historical narratives of culture that have been rooted for centuries.

He emphasized the importance of instilling historical values in the younger generation so that they can maintain national identity amidst the currents of globalization.

"Borobudur is more than just a historical relic. It is a witness to civilization and an inspiration for the future. The younger generation should be proud of it, but also understand the significance of this heritage," said Ibas.

The Borobudur area is a symbol of past glory that still lives on today. Through this activity, Ibas encourages all elements of society, especially the younger generation and MSMEs, to continue working together to ensure this area becomes not only a destination but also a center for cultural empowerment and collaboration.
