Borobudur Marathon Platform Introduces Borobudur Temple to the International World
InJourney Destination Management recorded an increase in visits to the Borobudur Temple Tourism Park in Magelang during the Borobudur Marathon event on Sunday (11/16/2025). The Borobudur Temple Tourism Park attracted 15.040 visitors. Visits to the courtyard or Zone II of Borobudur Temple reached 13.923, while visits to the Borobudur Temple increased by 1.117.
According to Kompas data, 10.682 runners from 38 countries participated in the 2025 Borobudur Marathon. The Indonesian Marathon (IDM) is targeting 15.000 tourists during the marathon. The event is expected to significantly impact the local economy and boost the tourism ecosystem around Borobudur.
"Having tens of thousands of people attend at one time is certainly a challenge. We've improved services, especially at the Borobudur Art Village, the main parking area. We prioritize accessibility to ensure the smooth running of all participants and the event," explained Gistang Panutur, Commercial Director of InJourney Destination Management, in Borobudur, Magelang, on Saturday (November 15, 2025).
According to Gistang Panutur, the Borobudur Marathon also serves as a platform to introduce Borobudur more widely to the international community. This positive momentum also has a positive impact on the regional economy.

IDM recorded tens of millions of rupiah in revenue from vendors at Medang Market, located near the Borobudur Marathon. One vendor at the Medang Antique Market, Indiyanti, said the Borobudur Marathon boosted sales, leading to a rise in her daily turnover.

Siti Rahayu, a Clorot and traditional snack vendor, is also a target for many runners after crossing the finish line at Lumbini Park, Borobudur Temple. This specialty from Purworejo, Central Java, is one of the traditional snacks sold by vendors at Medang Market.

The Borobudur Marathon is a world-class marathon with the Elite Label from World Athletics. The event, attended by 11.500 participants from 38 countries, featured 11 international elite runners and several national elite runners.
The Borobudur Marathon is more than just a running event; it also includes tourism, MSMEs, and other sectors that can stimulate the local economy. The enthusiasm of tens of thousands of participants from various regions has proven to have a significant impact on local revenue (PAD) and the local economy.
