Synergy to Improve the Borobudur–Yogyakarta–Prambanan Tourism Ecosystem
The Yogyakarta Special Region Provincial Government has invited InJourney Destination Management to collaborate on repackaging various tourism events. IDM President Director Febrina Intan announced this after meeting with Yogyakarta Governor Sri Sultan Hamengku Buwono X at Gedhong Wilis, Kepatihan complex, Yogyakarta, on Monday (January 26, 2026).
IDM President Director Febrina Intan said that this repackaging and promotion of tourism is expected to increase interest from both domestic and international tourists.
"Event packaging is being made more in-depth with strong emotional narratives, such as International Wellness Day and the Satu Suro tradition. It will be repackaged so that tourists don't just come to take photos, but also stay longer and support the local economy," explained Febrina Intan.
The Borobudur Temple Tourism Park (TWC) and TWC have successfully become tourist magnets through various activities. Annual events like the Prambanan Jazz Festival help maintain the pulse of modern music festivals that blend with the splendor of this 9th-century AD world heritage site.
The Ramayana Ballet performance, as one of the legendary performances that is still performed periodically, is the most sought-after traditional art performance by tourists in the Yogyakarta area.
The Vesak celebration at Borobudur Temple captured public attention with a display of thousands of lanterns released during Vesak night. Meanwhile, the international running event, the Borobudur Marathon, demonstrated the connection between cultural sites and the Sports Tourism which drives the local economy.
"Through this multi-stakeholder collaboration, Prambanan, Ratu Boko, and Borobudur Temples will not stand alone as single tourist destinations. Instead, they will become the driving force behind the tourism ecosystem in the Yogyakarta and Central Java regions. Therefore, don't just highlight one or two destinations, like Prambanan or Borobudur; tourism promotion must encompass the entire ecosystem as a whole," explained Febrina Intan.
With this new collaboration, Yogyakarta will be visited not only for its natural beauty and landscapes, but also for the experiences and stories it offers around every corner. Tourist distribution will also be more equitable, reaching areas of the creative economy that have previously been largely untapped by the international market.
“The main focus in this transformation is packaging calendar of events "An annual event that is no longer just a ceremony, but a performance that has soul and emotional appeal," he concluded.
