The TMII Gelora Nusantara Dance Performance by 1.000 Dancers Breaks the MURI Record
The Gelora Nusantara dance performance as part of the 51st Anniversary of Taman Mini Indonesia Indah (TMII) managed to record a record at the Indonesian World Record Museum (MURI), Saturday (18/4/2026). This performance won an award for the Dance Performance with the Most Regional Origins medley involving 1.000 dancers from 34 provinces in Indonesia.
"This achievement is an important milestone in efforts to preserve and promote Nusantara culture at the national level," explained Acting President Director of TMII Ratri Paramita in her statement. Jakarta, reported by Antara, Sunday (19/4/2026).
Ratri also stated that this MURI record achievement aligns with the theme of TMII's 51st anniversary, "Never-ending Cultural Preservation." The Gelora Nusantara performance is also supported by the TMII Regional Pavilion and the Dance Teacher Communication Forum.
"Through Gelora Nusantara, we want to emphasize that cultural preservation is not a one-time effort, but rather an ongoing process that must be maintained. Gelora Nusantara is not only a performance venue, but also a platform for education and promotion of Indonesian arts and culture to the wider community," he explained.
According to him, the collaboration of more than 1.000 dancers from 34 provinces is a real symbol that Indonesia's cultural diversity can be maintained together, inclusively and sustainably.
"We want culture to feel less distant or exclusive, but rather a part of people's daily lives. TMII strives to provide a more inclusive, interactive cultural experience that can be enjoyed by all groups, especially the younger generation," said Ratri.
This MURI Record achievement also strengthens TMII's position as a leading cultural destination that not only showcases the richness of traditions, but also becomes a living space for interaction, learning, and dynamic and contextual cultural development.
"By holding Gelora Nusantara, we hope to continue inspiring people to love and preserve Indonesian culture, while also expanding the reach of cultural promotion to the global level," he added.
In the celebration of TMII's 51st anniversary, various cultural activities were also held, such as Experience Bali in Day, Icip-Icip Nusantara which presented typical regional foods at a number of priority stands.
Then there will be performances of the Kecak Dance, Shinta Obong and the Gunungan Hasil Bumi which will involve thousands of people fighting over the agricultural produce that will be paraded in the TMII area.
"All these activities are designed to present culture in a more intimate, interactive, and meaningful format," he explained.
He added that for more than five decades, TMII has been a space representing Indonesia's cultural diversity.
"TMII continues to transform into a vibrant cultural ecosystem. It not only preserves heritage but also provides relevant experiences enjoyed by all levels of society," he concluded.
