Klaten Dancers Celebrate World Dance Day at Prambanan Temple
A total of 800 traditional dancers took part in the Klaten Menari 2026 event to celebrate World Dance Day at Wisnu Field, Prambanan Temple Tourism Park complex, Klaten, Sunday (3/5/2026).
The activity held by the Klaten Dance Studio Gathering Forum (FSST) which consists of 24 dance studios in Klaten began with Umbul Donga at Sewu Temple by nine dance maestros from Central Java and Jogja.
The performance of hundreds of dancers of various ages succeeded in attracting the attention of visitors to the Prambanan Temple Tourism Park (TWC), including foreign tourists.

Jonas, a foreign tourist from China, said he was impressed by the performance of the dancers, most of whom were young. He enjoyed the dance.
"This is my first time in Indonesia, and I was treated to a special event. Especially being able to dance alongside dancers performing traditional Javanese dances," she explained.
Frederico, a visitor from Mexico, echoed this sentiment. He described the opportunity to witness a dance performance with hundreds of dancers as an unforgettable experience.
“I feel lucky to be able to witness this event, it was a memorable moment for me,” he said.
Klaten Regent Hamenang Wajar Ismoyo said the event also promoted Klaten's traditional dance, the Dalang Mask Dance. He also stated that the Klaten Regency Government would propose to the central government that Prambanan Temple be designated as the Home of Indonesian Dance.
"We agree that this place (Prambanan Temple) is not just a religious and royal relic. Let's make this place the Home of Indonesian Dance," he said.
Darmasti, a master dancer from Surakarta, expressed her appreciation for the Klaten Menari event. According to her, the commemoration of World Dance Day is now even more lively with various events in the region, such as Solo Menari in Solo and Klaten Menari, which takes place at Prambanan Temple.
GM Prambanan & Ratu Boko Ratno Timur said that the support for the World Dance Day celebration held by the dance studio in Klaten Regency is an ongoing commitment to participate in advancing culture in Indonesia.
Prambanan Temple is open for dance studios to perform as part of developing the potential of young artists and also to enliven tourism in Prambanan.
"The tourism industry is a collaboration of culture, dance, and music. Anything can enrich activities to support the tourism industry. Hopefully, these agendas can be implemented soon," he concluded.
