Thousands of residents welcomed the Vesak Parade from Mendut Temple to Borobudur Temple.

Thousands of Buddhists and Borobudur residents enlivened the Vesak 2570 BE procession along the Mendut Temple–Borobudur Temple road in Magelang, Central Java, on Sunday (May 31, 2026). The Vesak procession consisted of the Eternal Flame from Mrapen, Blessed Water from Umbul Jumprit, Buddha relics, a drum band and flag-raising team, gunungan (mountains), and decorated cars.

The Vesak procession began at approximately 10:00 a.m. WIB from the Mendut Temple complex. The front row was followed by flag bearers, followed by vehicles carrying the Dharma Fire and Blessed Water, the Garuda Pancasila palanquin, the Bhinneka Tunggal Ika parade, the Tripitaka Bible palanquin, and a group carrying agricultural produce. Following the procession, monks in the vehicles chanted prayers and chanted chants and sprinkled blessed water on devotees and residents along the roadside.

The procession, which stretched approximately three kilometers, was also attended by representatives of Buddhist councils, religious organizations, and devotees and supporters from various regions across Indonesia. The excitement was also felt by the thousands of local residents and tourists who crowded the Mendut and Borobudur areas to witness the procession, which has become an annual tradition.

The procession concluded at Kenari Field, Zone I, Borobudur Temple. Here, thousands of Buddhists waited to perform devotional services ahead of Vesak. Monks from various sanghas chanted mantras and chanted prayers, followed reverently by thousands of devotees from across Indonesia.

Before the Vesak procession began, monks and Buddhists performed a prayer service at the Mendut Temple complex. The prayer service was conducted by monks and Buddhists from various congregations. The prayer service and sacred chanting took place solemnly and reverently. This prayer service ritual was performed before the procession and the Vesak commemoration.
