Sunflower Angel Attracts Thousands of Visitors, Presenting a Blend of Contemporary Art and Romance at the World Heritage Site of Prambanan Temple

Prambanan Temple has become a youth attraction with the Sunflower Angel art installation, captivating thousands of visitors. Running from May 21 to June 14, 2026, the exhibition features sunflower artworks standing majestically against the backdrop of Prambanan Temple, creating a unique and memorable visual experience for visitors.

Since it was opened to the public, the area exhibition It was crowded with visitors who came with their families, partners, and colleagues. Arrofi Ramadhan designed this installation as a symbol of the journey of love, hope, and dreams he and his partner have built. He explained that Sunflower Angel was inspired by three figures that hold deep meaning for him: a sunflower, a macaw, and Annisa Sekar P., his partner.

"Sunflower Angel at Prambanan Temple is a personal work that interprets life's changes through three creatures that are meaningful to the individual: a sunflower, a macaw, and Sekar (his partner). This work depicts happiness, joy, patience, destiny, self-discovery, and significant life changes when making peace with oneself and the universe," explained Arrofi Ramadhan in Prambanan on Tuesday (June 9, 2026).

According to Arrofi, the sunflower artwork received a lot of input for presentation in various locations, including Prambanan. He believes Prambanan Temple is an interesting location, given the similar motifs that underpin the stories. While the stories differ, both stem from the spirit of someone willing to create something on a large scale to demonstrate their love and commitment to a loved one.

“The making of sunflowers has similarities background, "Stories like the legends of Prambanan Temple. Perhaps there's a similar energy and spirit to their work, which stems from a willingness to create, build, no matter how big or how many, to show their seriousness in love," Arrofi continued.

He expressed his appreciation to the Prambanan Temple management for allowing his work to stand alongside the temple. He hopes this will provide a space for sharing stories and inspire more people.

"I feel this work will have a broader meaning when it can be enjoyed by the public. Prambanan provides a very special context, as it symbolizes a masterpiece that has endured the test of time. I hope everyone who comes can find their own interpretation and story when they see the Sunflower Angel standing alongside the splendor of Prambanan," he added.

IDM Commercial Director Gistang Panutur said that this collaboration between cultural heritage and contemporary art is part of an effort to provide an increasingly diverse tourism experience in the Prambanan Temple area.

Besides being a favorite photo destination, Sunflower Angel x Prambanan Temple also offers a variety of creative activities that visitors can participate in free of charge. Visitors arriving after 5:30 PM WIB can enter through Post H (north of the main tourist entrance) of Prambanan Temple Tourism Park.
