PT TWC's 46th Anniversary: From Us, For Us, For the Nation, Creating Decent Housing and New Hope for the Borobudur Community
Mukodin and Hariyanto can finally enjoy their retirement in peace in a sturdy, habitable home. For these two residents of Borobudur District, Magelang Regency, home is no longer just a shelter, but a space that brings a sense of security, hope, and renewed enthusiasm for life with their family.
This change was realized through the Social and Environmental Responsibility (TJSL) Program of PT Taman Wisata Candi Borobudur, Prambanan and Ratu Boko (Persero), which provided assistance in building habitable houses for communities around the destination area.
This program targets two residents of Borobudur Village who have been working as laborers, namely Mukodin, a resident of Ngaran 1 Hamlet, and Hariyanto, a resident of Bogowanti Kidul Hamlet.
Before receiving assistance, Mukodin had to live in a semi-permanent house that was far from adequate. The roof frequently leaked when it rained, the walls were made of woven bamboo (gedheg) that had become brittle with age, and the floor was still dirt.
In fact, some buildings have collapsed due to heavy rain and strong winds, as the construction of the houses is no longer able to support the weight. This situation raises concerns for the safety of families every rainy season.
With assistance from PT TWC, Mukodin's house has been rebuilt into a permanent residence that is more sturdy, healthy, and safe, meeting the standards of a habitable home. These changes not only improve the physical condition of the building but also provide a better quality of life for the family.
"I never expected to receive this assistance. If you ask me how happy I am, I'm absolutely delighted. I'd like to express my gratitude to everyone who has helped, especially PT TWC and the Magelang Regency Government," he said, filled with emotion.
Hariyanto experienced a similar situation. He previously lived in a temporary home that had suffered severe damage. The building was leaning and on the verge of collapse, still had a dirt floor, and lacked adequate bathroom facilities.
Through the assistance of house construction, Hariyanto can now live in a more comfortable, healthy, and safe residence, so that his family has a more suitable place to live their daily lives.
The affordable housing assistance program was inaugurated on Tuesday (July 14, 2026) at Mukodin's residence in Ngaran 1 Hamlet, Borobudur Village. The inauguration was part of a series of events commemorating PT TWC's 46th anniversary and represented the company's concrete contribution to accelerating the alleviation of extreme poverty and improving the quality of life for the people of the Borobudur area.
Representing the Regent of Magelang, Acting Regional Secretary of Magelang Regency, David Rudiyanto, expressed his appreciation for PT TWC's consistency in presenting programs that directly benefit the community. He stated that providing decent housing is a basic need that significantly impacts family well-being.
"This program demonstrates PT TWC's commitment to improving the community's quality of life by providing decent, safe, and healthy housing. The Magelang Regency Government expresses its appreciation for this contribution," said David.
On the occasion, the Magelang Regency Government and PT TWC officials also signed a plaque to mark the launch of the affordable housing assistance program. The ceremony marked a shared commitment between the local government and the business community to expand collaboration to improve community well-being.
"Hopefully, this newly built home will bring happiness, health, a sense of security, and renewed enthusiasm to the beneficiary families. We also hope that more parties will participate through social programs that directly benefit the community," explained David.
David also emphasized the importance of cross-sector synergy in addressing the issue of uninhabitable housing in Magelang Regency. He hopes that village governments, along with village facilitators, will continue to update data on uninhabitable houses as a basis for prioritizing management. Based on existing data, Borobudur District still has approximately 1.000 uninhabitable houses that require attention and support from various parties.
Director of PT Taman Wisata Borobudur (TWB) Mardijono Nugroho emphasized that the habitable housing program is part of the company's commitment to ensuring that the existence of tourist destinations not only provides economic benefits through the tourism sector, but also brings real social impacts to the surrounding communities.
According to him, as the manager of a national priority tourist destination and a world cultural heritage area, PT TWC has a responsibility to grow alongside the community. Therefore, every program the company implements is aimed at improving community welfare while strengthening sustainable regional development.
"We are committed to having a positive impact on the region. Borobudur is not just the property of Borobudur Village, but a strategic area encompassing Magelang Regency. Therefore, the benefits the company provides must be felt widely by the community," he said.
Through continuously strengthened collaboration between PT TWC, the Magelang Regency Government, village governments, and various other stakeholders, efforts to accelerate the reduction of extreme poverty and the handling of uninhabitable houses in the Borobudur area are expected to continue in a sustainable manner.
This program is proof that the development of tourism destinations is not only oriented towards economic growth, but also towards improving the quality of life of the community which is an inseparable part of the Borobudur ecosystem.
