Borobudur is illuminated in orange, supporting the global campaign to eliminate violence against women.

In collaboration between PT Taman Wisata Candi Borobudur, Prambanan and Ratu Boko (TWC) and UN Women, the United Nations agency for gender equality and women's empowerment, today Borobudur Temple is illuminated in orange to support the elimination of violence against women.
Borobudur Temple's participation is a form of support for the global initiative "Orange the World," part of the UN Secretary-General's global campaign for the 16 Days of Action Against Violence Against Women. For 16 days, iconic buildings around the world are illuminated in orange to show their support. Orange itself is an optimistic color, symbolizing a bright future for women and girls, free from violence.
"UN Women appreciates the management of Borobudur Temple for their support of this campaign in 2016 and 2017. We believe that everyone has the right to live free from violence and the threat of violence. Therefore, we need to work together to eliminate all forms of violence against women and girls everywhere using whatever means we have. UN Women calls on all communities to join forces to stop it, so that no one is left behind in creating a life free from violence," said Lily Puspasari, Programme Specialist for UN Women Indonesia.
The 16 Days of Violence Against Women campaign is a campaign that runs every year from November 25, the International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women, to December 10, 2016, Human Rights Day. This campaign aims to raise public awareness and show solidarity for victims of gender-based violence. This year, the 16 Days of Violence Against Women campaign takes the theme "Leave No One Behind" emphasizing the campaign's commitment to a world free from violence against women and girls worldwide, including reaching the marginalized.
Meanwhile, PT Taman Wisata Candi Borobudur, Prambanan & Ratu Boko (TWC) and the Borobudur Conservation Center strongly support the implementation of this activity, as conveyed by the General Manager of the Borobudur Temple Tourism Park, Chrisnamurti Adiningrum.
"This is our second year participating in supporting the UN Women's Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women and Children. Our support for the 'Orange The World' activity is a form of corporate commitment and concern to join in voicing the elimination of violence against women by lighting orange lights for Borobudur Temple today from 6:00 PM to 12:00 PM WIB. Borobudur Orange is expected to inspire people around the world to support activities in the context of the Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women," said Chrisna.
