Continuing to radiate its majestic beauty, the magnificent Borobudur Temple in Magelang Regency, Central Java, became the focal point of the Arts and Culture event: Borobudur International Festival 2017, which took place on July 28-30, 2017 at Lumbini Field, in the Borobudur Temple Complex.
The best dance and music performances from various regions in Central Java succeeded in captivating the audience, namely from the regencies of Demak, Wonogiri, Tegal, Batang, Pekalongan, Pati, Rembang, Banyumas, Cilacap, Semarang, Kebumen, Salatiga and from Magelang.
From outside Central Java, traditional arts performances included the Wira Birawa Dance (NTB), the Kirana Maheswari Dance (Lumajang, East Java), and the Silat and Debus Dances (Banten). Delegations from abroad introduced their cultural riches, including those from India, China, and Japan.
The BIF is a platform for artists (both domestic and international) to showcase their best creativity. Furthermore, BIF aims to brand Borobudur Temple as a major attraction for the Joglosemar (Jogja, Solo, Semarang) destinations, boosting foreign tourist arrivals to Central Java and Yogyakarta, while supporting the target of 2 million foreign tourists by 2019. These various activities and events are part of an effort to make Borobudur Temple a symbol of tolerance, harmony, and friendship.
