Borobudur Temple, Source of Inspiration for the Wealth of Indonesian Music

Borobudur Temple is a source of inspiration. In addition to containing a long historical value about human civilization, it also has authentic evidence of the development of Nusantara musical instruments that have been alive since the 8th century AD. Proven by the carvings of more than 40 types of musical instruments on the temple relief panels.

The excitement of performing arts with traditional musical instruments presented in the reliefs of Borobudur Temple is an inspiration for young musicians to create and represent the authentic richness of local culture. Wrapped in modern and contemporary elements, traditional art performances will continue to live and be loved by young people and become a source of pride for the nation's identity.

Taking place at Aksobya Field, Borobudur Temple Tourism Park complex, dozens of artists from three regions in Indonesia performed the Nada Nusantara Concert. The concert, which is part of a series of program activities by the Ministry of Education, Culture, Research and Technology and the Atsanti Foundation, is an effort to preserve, inspire and regenerate culture in Indonesia, especially through the lens of music art and traditional musical instruments, so that it remains relevant, up-to-date, and in demand by the younger generation.

The concert, held on Tuesday (27/9/2022) afternoon, featured musicians, including Ridho Hafiedz, Ardhito Pramono, Yura Yunita, Marcello Tahitoe and musicians from three regions; Central Java, Bali, and Maluku. They performed new works resulting from collaborations from their respective regions; “Ku Selalu di Sini” (Ridho Hafiedz, Marcello Tahitoe, musicians from Central Java), “Nada Kaya” (Ridho Hafiedz, Yura Yunita, musicians from Karangasem, Bali), and “Nusa Ina” (Ridho Hafiedz, Ardhito Pramono, and musicians from Ambon, Maluku).

The musicians from the three regions who will participate include: the Wasesa Ananta Karangasem Bali Studio, the Penting Merdu Komala Group, the Gurnita Sandi Karangasem Bali Arts Community, the Booyratan Studio, Amahusu Ambon, the Molucca Bamboowind Orchestra Ambon, the Hatukau Negeri Batu Merah Ambon Studio, Grizzly Cluivert Nahusuly (rapper) from Ghetto Side Ambon, Mollucas Manise, the Taliwangsa Studio, ISI Yogyakarta, Department of Ethnomusicology, the Mahesa Lodra Borobudur Studio, and the Avadana Borobudur and Ganang Tri Laksana Dance Studios.

Meanwhile, Marketing & Sales VP PT TWC Pujo Suwarno said that as the manager of a tourist destination with a cultural heritage character that is a world cultural heritage, it fully supports the local cultural performing arts of the archipelago in the destination. This is in accordance with the spirit of the destination which plays a role in introducing and inspiring young people to love the arts and culture of the archipelago.

"Of course, this is in accordance with President Joko Widodo's message when visiting Borobudur Temple. In addition, cultural performances, especially by local residents, are a form of community participation in developing tourist attractions in the Borobudur area," he explained.
