Create Shared Benefits, Ornamental Plant Cultivation for Super Priority Destinations
Improving the community's economy is a shared responsibility, supporting the Indonesian government's program to achieve prosperity and well-being for all levels of society. This is accomplished by implementing corporate initiatives aligned with the Sustainable Development Goals ( SDGs).
PT Taman Wisata Candi Borobudur, Prambanan, and Ratu Boko supports this by contributing to the sustainable development of the community's economic well-being and maintaining the sustainability of its socio-economic life. PT TWC implements business processes that maintain environmental quality, ensure fairness, and improve the quality of life, as part of its Creating Shared Value (CSV) initiative, which aims to create shared benefits and foster shared responsibility.
PT TWC collaborates with the community of Madurejo Village, Prambanan, Sleman, Yogyakarta, in the Ornamental Plant and Perennial Plant Cultivation program. This aims to increase the economic value and income of the community through the cultivation of ornamental plants and perennials and provide added value for the company in meeting the needs of rejuvenation of ornamental plants and perennials at the Taman Wisata Candi destination.
The coaching includes training on how to plant, care for and cultivate ornamental plants and perennials and digital marketing through social media. In addition, PT TWC through the Environmental Social Responsibility (TJSL) program also initiated the establishment of Pengklik Flory as the center of this empowerment program.
PT TWC's Director of Operations and Infrastructure Development Mardijono Nugroho, PT TWC's Corporate Secretary AY Suhartanto, PT TWC's TJSL & SME Founding Manager Ismiyati, and the Head of Madurejo Village, Prambanan, Sumadi, inaugurated Pengklik Flory on Wednesday, December 14, 2022. Built on village land, Pengklik Flory aims to provide ornamental plants that meet market demand and also supply high-quality ornamental and hardy plants to TWC destinations.
“TWC destinations require rejuvenation of special plants that are rarely found in the market. This is our concern, as managers of environmentally friendly destinations. Through CSV, we combine efforts to meet the needs of companies that correlate with improving the welfare of residents in the company area. This synergy effort is a real manifestation of creating shared benefits,” explained Mardijono Nugroho.
Madurejo Village Head, Sumadi said that this program is in line with the village government's efforts to revive agro tourism in its area. Through the Tourism Awareness Group (Pokdarwis), Pengklik Flory can help support the development of agro tourism that is prosperous for the community in Madurejo Village, Prambanan, Sleman.
"Later, we want to develop agro-based and cultural tourism which can later be accessed by all people in several corners to be able to buy what we market. Pengklik Flory can grow BUMDes together with Pokdarwis also to develop products from ornamental plants and perennials," he explained.
The Head of the Cultivation Group, Supri said that Pengklik Flory cultivates dozens of types of ornamental plants, including Kenanga, Kemuning, Sapu Tangan, Brazilian Grapes, Bringin Kupu-Kupu, Avocado, Lychee, Small Sapodilla, Anting Putri, Nogosari, Puring, and Klengkeng. Supri along with eight people who will become Pengklik Flory operators have received comprehensive plant cultivation knowledge which includes care and propagation from seeds through various methods, including cuttings and grafting.
"We were assisted so that we could understand the grafting process, cuttings, and the selection of materials used for the process. In addition, we were also directed to better understand market tastes, what plants are currently popular, so that we can continue to develop our ability to cultivate these ornamental plants," he explained.
Meanwhile, Carik Desa Madurejo, Totok Hartoto, hopes that this synergy and collaboration will continue between PT TWC and Madurejo Village, including by making Pengklik Flory the main partner for the procurement of ornamental plant seeds and perennials for TWC destinations.
"Temple Tourism Park with a very large and very beautiful land, of course there is a procurement of ornamental plant seeds. Hopefully we can become the main partner for the procurement. In addition, we also hope to become a supplier of the Regional Apparatus Organization (OPD) in Yogyakarta," he concluded.
