TWC CEO: Borobudur Development Becomes Joglosemar's Driving Force

PT Taman Wisata Candi Borobudur, Prambanan, and Ratu Boko have made many improvements in the Taman Wisata Candi Borobudur area in order to prepare 5 Super Priority Tourism Destinations (DPSP). Not only PT TWC, the Government has also carried out revitalization, infrastructure development, and road repairs. Tourists can now see the splendor of Borobudur directly.

TWC Borobudur Director, Edy Setijono, also said that the development of the Borobudur area as a super priority destination is a driving force for the development of the Joglosemar area. Not only social and environmental benefits, but also providing economic benefits.

"The concept of visitor circulation at Borobudur Temple is an effort to ensure that the potential for increasing tourist numbers aligns with quality tourism , namely short-learning tourists (who do not require in-depth knowledge of Borobudur) and depth-learning tourists (tourists with specific interests who gain limited access to the temple buildings)," explained Edy Setijono at the seminar "Gen Posting: Quality and Sustainable Borobudur Tourism" on Saturday (30/07/2022) at the Hyatt Hotel Yogyakarta.

Deputy for Destination and Infrastructure Development of the Ministry of Tourism and Creative Economy, Vinsensius Jemadu, stated that currently we are trying to create a legacy so that tourism can be enjoyed by the next generation.

"This aspect of sustainability is not only about the environment, but also concerns socio-cultural, economic, and industrial aspects. So how can this tourism benefit all components of society," explained Vinsensius.

Furthermore, the Director of Cultural Development and Utilization of the Ministry of Education, Culture, Research and Technology, Restu Gunawan, also said that tourism development around Borobudur was carried out with the aim of preserving the temple and being able to provide benefits to the surrounding community.

"Those who are permitted to climb the temple must wear the upanat sandals whose production process involves the local community, so that its sustainability can be carried out in line with economic growth for the people around Borobudur," he added.

The Chairperson of the DPD PUTRI DIY, Gusti Kanjeng Ratu Bendara, also expressed her hope for collaboration between Yogyakarta and Central Java, to jointly maintain Borobudur Temple tourism that is not only of high quality, but also sustainable. The Regional Tourism Promotion Agency (BPPD) of DIY also helps promote and coordinate the development of tourism marketing according to local government policies, as well as cross-sector marketing coordination for one vision, especially Borobudur which is located in the Joglosemar area (Yogyakarta, Solo, and Semarang).

Secretary General of the DIY Tourism Promotion Agency, Ayu Cornelia suggested the need for mapping the potential in each region. In addition, steps to empower and strengthen local communities through education must continue to be developed.

"In this way, the three pillars of tourism strategy initiated by the Minister of Tourism and Creative Economy, Sandiaga Uno, namely innovation, adaptation, and collaboration can be realized if all stakeholders and the community work together to realize a sustainable economy.
