In an effort to promote healthy lifestyles and sports tourism, the Central Java government and the Borobudur Marathon Foundation partnered with media giant Kompas to host the Borobudur Marathon. Around 10.000 runners competed in the full marathon, half marathon and 10-kilometer race categories. They ran through villages in the beautiful Borobudur area.
