Two-Year Hiatus, PT TWC Welcomes the Implementation of Indonesia Tipitaka Chanting (ITC) 2022 at Borobudur Temple Tourism Park

A total of 1200 people attended the Indonesia Tipitaka Chanting (ITC) organized by Sangha Theravada Indonesia (STI) together with the Indonesian Theravada Buddhist Family at Lumbini Park, Borobudur Temple Tourism Park Complex, Magelang, Central Java, Friday (8/7/2022).

Considering the potential for Covid-19 transmission, the ritual of reading the Tipitaka or Tripitaka holy texts is still held with a limitation on the number of participants. Indonesia Tipitaka Chanting is again held offline after two years of being run online.

Indonesia Tipitaka Chanting and Asalha Mahapuja will take place on 8-10 July 2022. On Sunday (10/7/2022) the Asalha or Asadha Mahapuja celebration will be held, an annual ritual held two months after the Tri Suci Waisak holiday.

In addition to reading the Tipitaka texts, participants of the Indonesian Tipitaka Chanting will also discuss and listen to lectures or Dhammadesana, so that participants will gain a better understanding and benefit from participating in this activity.

Acting Director General of Buddhist Community Guidance Nyoman Suriadarma expressed his appreciation to the Indonesian Theravada Sangha and the committee who had worked hard for the implementation of the 2022 Indonesia Tipitaka Chanting (ITC) at the Borobudur Grand Temple Courtyard.

"That the reading of the Tipitaka Chanting is a noble way to always be able to maintain, care for, and preserve the Tripitaka as a source of strength for ethical and moral beliefs and to preserve the virtues that take place every year and we should support it together," he said.

Bhante Guttadhammo Mahathera said that by studying the Majjhima Nikaya scriptures, it can be practiced in daily life so that it brings benefits both now and in the future.

"This activity was created not merely as a ceremonial event, but so that people can gain spiritual benefits, gain peace and happiness," explained Bhante.

VP Sales & Marketing PT TWC Pujo Suwarno said that the ITC and Asalha Mahapuja 2566 activities are expected to be supporting events to implement Borobudur Temple as a world-class religious destination.

"This ritual is one of the government's efforts to support the Memorandum of Understanding signed by 4 ministers and two governors to make Borobudur Temple a world-class religious tourism destination," he concluded after attending the opening of the ITC.
