InJourney Destination Management Trains 1.069 Elementary School Students to Prepare for Earthquake Disasters
PT Taman Wisata Candi Borobudur, Prambanan and Ratu Boko collaborated with the Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD) of Sleman Regency to hold an earthquake disaster mitigation briefing program involving 1.069 Elementary School (SD) students around the Prambanan Temple area. This program is a form of the company's commitment to improving disaster preparedness in elementary schools and ensuring that the younger generation is alert in dealing with emergency disaster situations.
Thousands of students involved in the earthquake disaster mitigation training came from six elementary schools, including, SD N Bogem 2, SD N Tamanan, SD N Pakem, SD N Bokoharjo which are located in the Sleman area, Yogyakarta, and SD N Prambanan 1, SD N Bugisan which are located in Klaten, Central Java.
During the training, participants were provided with materials covering the definition of disaster and its mitigation, simulation practices and evaluation of results. When an earthquake occurs, the first thing to do is to seek the nearest shelter such as under a table, corner of a building wall, corner of a cupboard and others.
After seeking the nearest shelter, participants prepared to leave the room by covering their heads with their respective bags from the risk of being hit by building debris. Participants headed to the gathering point through the evacuation route that had been determined in each school. InJourney Destination Management also provided medical equipment, evacuation route signs and determination of gathering points in each school.
Corporate Secretary of PT TWC Ryan Eka Permana Sakti said that this activity is a social responsibility of the company that must be carried out around the company, considering that Indonesia is one of the countries located on an active plate. He hopes that this activity can be a means of education for proper disaster mitigation from an early age.
"Through this training, students can learn what to do during an earthquake, especially at school. It will also explain the evacuation routes and where the gathering points are in each school. Hopefully, students can learn what to do during a disaster. Students can also tell and teach this material to their families and friends outside of school," he explained.
Meanwhile, the Principal of Tamanan I Elementary School, Khamnah Munadhiroh, appreciated the activities which he said needed to be carried out and understood by students at the school.
"We realize the importance of this learning for our children. Hopefully this can be useful for our children, wherever they are, so not only at school, but also at home. They can be alert in facing natural disasters such as earthquakes," he concluded.
