Coordinating Ministry for Human Development and Culture Supports Development of Borobudur Area
Coordinating Minister for Human Development and Culture (Menko PMK) Muhadjir Effendy supports the development of Borobudur Temple as a spiritual destination. He conveyed this during a visit to Borobudur Temple Tourism Park, Wednesday (17/2/2021).
"I personally support Borobudur being implemented 70 percent as a spiritual destination. This is also in order for us to build diversity, religious plurality in Indonesia," said Muhadjir.
During the visit, the Coordinating Minister for PMK saw the splendor of Borobudur Temple from Dagi Hill. The Menoreh Mountains covered in mist became the backdrop that added to the charm of the Borobudur landscape.
Before reviewing Bukit Dagi Borobudur, the Coordinating Minister for PMK met with the Director General of Culture of the Ministry of Education and Culture Hilmar Farid, the Director General of Buddhist Community Guidance, Bhante Sri Pannavaro Mahathera, the President Director of PT Taman Wisata Candi Borobudur, Prambanan & Ratu Boko (Persero) Edy Setijono, and others. His arrival was also to obtain complete input regarding the position of Borobudur for Buddhists around the world.
"I want to get his (Bhante) certainty about what Borobudur's position is like for international Buddhists. Earlier he explained that it is indeed not a holy place written in the book. However, Borobudur is one of the places that is highly respected by Buddhists in the world, yes," said Muhadjir.
Bhante Sri Pannavaro Mahathera hopes that religious ceremonies can be held in Borobudur such as Waisak, Asadha and other events. This is so that Buddhists in ASEAN can participate in worshiping at Borobudur Temple.
"Religious ceremonies that are incidentally held in Borobudur such as Waisak and Asadha can be held here, so that Buddhists in ASEAN can understand better so that they will visit and worship here," he said.
Bhante Pannavaro added that Borobudur, although not written in the holy book, is a highly respected place, sanctified by Buddhists because it is unique and has no equal in the world.
"Borobudur, although not written in the holy book, is a highly respected place, sanctified by Buddhists because it is unique and has no equal in the world," he said.
Meanwhile, President Director of PT TWC Edy Setijono invited related stakeholders to always maintain communication and unite their vision in carrying out the task of realizing Borobudur as a super priority destination in Indonesia.
"We know that the Borobudur temple area has been designated by the president as a super priority area where cooperation between related ministries is needed to meet the President's target," he concluded.
