Collaboration of PT TWC & AJE ASEAN Realizes Green Tourism in Borobudur Area
PT Taman Wisata Candi Borobudur, Prambanan & Ratu Boko collaborated with AJE ASEAN to optimize the development of green tourism at the Taman Wisata Candi Borobudur destination, Magelang, Central Java.
This Cooperation Agreement was signed directly by the Director of Marketing, Services and Business Development of PT TWC Hetty Herawati and President Director of AJE ASEAN Fabian Daniel Mosquera Vera at the Manohara Borobudur Study Center, Magelang, Central Java, Tuesday (25/10/2022).
In this collaboration, PT TWC and AJE ASEAN collaborate in handling waste at the destination with several work programs, including educational content, activating professional waste processing, and providing coaching (community empowerment) so that waste can be useful and produce added value.
Marketing, Service and Business Development Director of PT TWC Hetty Herawati said that the waste problem is a special concern for the temple management. Through this collaboration, waste management in the Borobudur area is expected to be more optimal.
"In the Borobudur Temple Tourism Park area, 4 tons of waste are produced per day. This must be done thoroughly. Later, with this cooperation, waste management facilities will be built, especially wood and plastic waste. So far, PT TWC can only manage organic waste that has been managed by itself," he said.
In this collaboration between TWC and AJE Indonesia, workshops and training will be held on processing waste/garbage into souvenirs and eco-enzymes.
"We hope that this program can be sustainable to realize Sustainable Tourism in supporting Borobudur Temple as a Super Priority Tourism Destination," he continued.
This green tourism program is one of PT TWC's efforts to maintain the sustainability of the temple and realize the balance of the ecosystem in one area. This program is to drive the Green Tourism program towards Sustainable Tourism.
Tourists will be taught how to manage organic waste and utilize plastic waste into Borobudur Temple-themed crafts. PT TWC collaborates with the community and local artists as part of the community empowerment program. The Edukriya attraction, which has been running during the 2022 Eid holiday, will be held again during the Christmas and New Year holidays, considering the high public interest.
"Tourists will be invited to see and practice making various crafts from plastic, inspired by Borobudur Temple, so that there is historical and storytelling value," he said.
President Director of AJE ASEAN, Fabian Daniel Mosquera Vera, appreciated PT TWC's steps in managing waste in its destinations. AJE ASEAN is committed to collaborating in the form of cooperation including promotions, joint green campaigns, and waste management projects.
"We (with TWC) have been working together and are very close for about 6 months, with the project starting with handling waste. The cooperation is not only about handling waste but also about three other issues, one of which is going green, which helps us to stay active in this community," he said.
