The Peak of the Vesak Tri Suci Celebration 2562 BE/2018 at Borobudur Temple
On Tuesday night (29/05) the peak of the Vesak celebration took place at Borobudur Temple. The celebration of the Tri Suci Vesak 2562 BE/2018, began with a free medical social service that lasted for two days, 25-26 May 2018 at Lumbini Park, Borobudur Temple Tourism Park complex. The series of activities continued with the eternal flame procession (27/5/2018), almsgiving (28/5/2018) and the holy water procession (28/5/2018) at Mendut Temple. The procession to Borobudur Temple took place on Tuesday (29/5/2018) afternoon. Continued with the seconds of Vesak Tuesday night at 21.19.13 WIB. The peak of the Vesak celebration was closed with the release of lanterns by Buddhists and the community.
The Commemoration of the Tri Suci Vesak 2562BE/2018 took the theme "Transformation of Delusional Consciousness into Pure Consciousness" and the sub-theme "Let Us Together Fight to Defeat the Ego". Minister of Religious Affairs Lukman Hakim Saifuddin in his remarks said "Vesak reminds us of the importance of giving good deeds and doing good deeds where all of these practices are needed in today's world. Therefore, every time we commemorate religious holidays, it is very important to cultivate how every religious community can truly understand the meaning and purpose of these holidays, especially in relation to the development of noble morals."
"This needs to be stated so that it can be fully internalized, considering that religious teachings are based on an awareness of how humans can apply the principles of virtue in everyday life. Let us emphasize the role of religion in the life of the Indonesian nation. Every religion teaches the noble values of virtue, virtue, perfection, and peace. Based on this, efforts to build a religious national character are a concrete, positive form of creating a peaceful and harmonious life. I want to emphasize the importance of moderation in religion. We must further strengthen religious moderation. Religious moderation means that religion should not be brought into extreme understanding and forms of practice," added Lukman Hakim Saifuddin.
Walubi Chairwoman Hartati Murdaya said, "After we have silently welcomed the Vesak moments, I would like to invite everyone to this moment, today we strive to find our true selves, namely Buddha Nature, the limitless nature of Buddha. Because until now we have been too shackled by lust." Hartati Murdaya also encouraged the congregation to strive to overcome the Ego.
The Trisuci Waisak Day itself commemorates three important events in Buddhist teachings. Namely the birth of Siddhartha Gautama, the Buddha attaining perfect enlightenment, and the death of Buddha Gautama.
