Handing Over Prosthetic Leg Assistance, PT TWC Supports Independence of People with Disabilities

PT Taman Wisata Candi Borobudur, Prambanan & Ratu Boko (Persero) supports the Indonesian Government in realizing a more inclusive and tolerant society. One of the things that is of particular concern is supporting the aspirations and independence of people with disabilities so that they are empowered to face post-pandemic conditions.

Through the Environmental Social Responsibility (TJSL) program, PT TWC handed over three prosthetic legs to two people with disabilities, Wednesday (4/8/2021). The assistance was symbolically handed over by TJSL & SME Founding Manager Bambang Sarwo Eddy accompanied by TJSL & SME Founding Implementation AM Ismi to the beneficiaries, namely Sudiyono Andi Nugroho and Fitriyanto Santoso.

TJSL & SME Founding Manager Bambang Sarwo Eddy stated that this assistance is a concrete step by PT TWC to support independence that opens access to welfare for people with disabilities. This is a shared goal to achieve a more inclusive Indonesia.

"In the midst of the limitations due to this pandemic, we do not stop. We strive for programs that are carried out in accordance with the values ​​of the SDG (Sustainable Development Goals) as a basis for implementing the TJSL Program, including realizing a healthy and prosperous life," said Eddy in Prambanan, Sleman, Wednesday (4/8/2021).

PT TWC is very concerned about the formation of an inclusive empowerment space for people with disabilities. "One of their main problems is the difficulty of mobility. So with this assistive device, it will help their mobility, so they can return to being active and productive," he continued.

The prosthetic leg assistance was made for almost two months. The process includes initial measurements, fitting the prosthetic leg size and finishing touches. "We work on this prosthetic leg so precisely that the beneficiaries can be comfortable wearing it when doing activities," he continued.

Sudiyono Andi Nugroho (35 years old) feels lucky to be able to get this prosthetic leg. He was forced to lose his right leg due to a work accident. This once made him lose hope. "My family, especially my children, were the first to give me encouragement and accept what had happened. I feel excited again," he said.

This prosthetic leg assistance for him is a new source of enthusiasm to return to activities during the pandemic. He is also still getting used to using his legs to suit his activities.

"Of course we are grateful for this much-needed assistance. If not for this assistance, we might have difficulty because the price is quite expensive. Hopefully we can continue to use it for productive needs," said the resident of Sambirejo, Prambanan, Sleman, who works as a farm laborer.

Another beneficiary, Fitriyanto Santoso (43 years old) hopes that the prosthetic leg assistance program can be expanded to reach other disabled friends. The man who lost two legs due to a single accident while driving is grateful to receive a prosthetic leg from PT TWC that fits his body size.

"There must be many friends with disabilities who actually want to be active, want to be productive, but because of their disabilities, they become passive individuals. We hope this assistance can reach other areas," he said.

Eddy added that raising awareness to support the disabled requires cross-sector cooperation that synergizes with each other. "We are clearly unable to do much. However, we want to invite various parties to participate in building awareness and synergizing to solve this problem together," he concluded.
