Deputy Minister of Creative Economy: Borobudur Art Village Ready to Welcome Domestic and Foreign Tourists

Deputy Minister of Creative Economy Irene Umar visited Borobudur Art Village (KSB), in the Borobudur Temple Tourism Park complex, Magelang, Central Java, Saturday (22/3/2025). This visit was to ensure the readiness of the local MSME area in Borobudur Art Village to welcome Eid 2025.

During the visit, the Deputy Minister of Creative Economy was accompanied by the President Director of PT TWC Febrina Intan and the Director of TWB Mardijono Nugroho touring the KSB area, starting from the art gallery area, museum, trader area, pavilion, amphitheater, and the KSB gate node.

On this occasion, Deputy Minister of Creative Economy Irene Umar also bought up local MSME products, including batik clothes, fans, bakpia and others. In addition, at the KSB pendopo, the Deputy Minister of Creative Economy had the opportunity to learn batik with MSME mothers.

"We tried canting and the results were quite good. It turned out to be difficult, the fire here (palm). Then after that, we were taught (by) the incredibly patient mothers. I just found out about this, what the difficulties are like. Usually we see, not try directly. This is trying directly," he explained.

According to him, this is certainly very interesting for tourists who come, because they not only shop, but can see the manufacturing process.

"This is really amazing, because it's not just selling, but also introducing culture and procedures, how to produce a bag, batik, pottery and others. People who just shop normally, don't know the process, can't appreciate the goods. Moreover, the wind is gentle and you can see the scenery, this is really amazing," he explained.

According to him, the results of the revitalization in the Borobudur Temple area and the presence of the Borobudur Art Village which is a center for local MSMEs is an extraordinary improvement.

"But if we look at the flow of public space, what's important is people flow , how the route works. When people get out of their cars, they already know the route and where they're going. This is a tremendous improvement , and it's ready to accommodate not only local tourists but also international ones," he explained.

Meanwhile, Business Support Group Head PT TWB Ayunanto said that during the peak period from Tuesday (1/4/2025) to Tuesday (7/4/2025), Borobudur Temple is projected to be visited by 76 thousand tourists.

"This figure is up around 34 percent compared to last year. From the prediction of homecoming to Central Java, there is an increase. We also predict that those who will go to Borobudur will also increase," he explained.

At the Borobudur Temple Tourism Park destination, during the Eid holiday, visitors are entertained by a folk stage involving local artists around Borobudur Temple. Traditional arts such as cokekan, suket puppet shows, modern keroncong, making janur crafts can be enjoyed by tourists who come.

"To fill the dots so that visitors can be entertained from the gate node (first entrance) to the temple. After visiting the temple, visitors can be creative in weaving or there are other creations in KSB," he concluded.
