Realizing a Healthy and Safe Destination, TWC and BNNP DIY Collaborate to Eradicate Narcotics Distribution

PT Taman Wisata Candi Borobudur, Prambanan and Ratu Boko (PT TWC) is carrying out collaborative synergy with the National Narcotics Agency of the Special Region of Yogyakarta Province (BNNP DIY) in order to realize the Prevention and Eradication of Abuse and Illicit Distribution of Narcotics and Narcotics Precursors in the PT Taman Wisata Candi Borobudur, Prambanan and Ratu Boko environment.

This began with the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding between the National Narcotics Agency of the Special Region of Yogyakarta Province (BNNP DIY) and PT Taman Wisata Candi Borobudur, Prambanan and Ratu Boko (PT TWC) on Wednesday, January 18, 2023 at the Prambanan Temple complex. With the beautiful view of Prambanan Temple as a backdrop, the Head of BNNP DIY, Susanto, and the President Director of PT TWC, Edy Setijono, signed the Memorandum of Understanding.

Borobudur Temple, Prambanan Temple and Ratu Boko Palace as World Cultural Heritage and historical sites that are the pride of Indonesia, need to be preserved by making efforts to introduce and utilize them for the wider community, both from within the country and from abroad, while still paying attention to the elements of sustainable conservation.

TWC is currently also entrusted with managing the Taman Mini Indonesia Indah (TMII) destination, known as The Ultimate of Indonesian Beauty . Beyond being a recreational destination, TMII plays a significant role as a global example of how to preserve and represent a nation's culture. TMII provides a space for regional culture to be recognized and provides educational value to the public.

"All destinations managed by PT TWC need to be well-maintained, especially from the potential threats of drug abuse and illicit trafficking, which will divide unity and integrity, as well as damage the morals of the nation's younger generation. To achieve this, TWC cannot possibly work alone. This is where the importance of collaborative synergy with relevant stakeholders, in order to realize the shared mission towards Tourism Revival ," said Edy Setijono, President Director of PT Taman Wisata Candi Borobudur, Prambanan and Ratu Boko.

PT Taman Wisata Candi Borobudur, Prambanan and Ratu Boko or TWC as part of the state-owned aviation and tourism ecosystem , strongly supports efforts aimed at providing security and comfort in the Tourism Destination areas in Indonesia, especially the Borobudur Temple area, Prambanan Temple, Ratu Boko Palace, Pentas Theater Unit, The Manohara Hotel Yogyakarta, and Taman Mini Indonesia Indah, under the management of TWC.

The signing of this Memorandum of Understanding will later become a guideline for PT TWC and BNNP DIY in order to realize a healthy, narcotic-free tourism area in destinations managed by TWC.

Strengthening the synergy between PT TWC and the DIY BNNP through the signing of the Memorandum of Understanding is a strategic step in order to accelerate the Prevention and Eradication of Narcotics Abuse and Illicit Trafficking (P4GN) program in all destinations managed by PT TWC. It is hoped that PT TWC and the DIY BNNP will jointly invite and mobilize the community to participate in taking part in fighting drugs ( War on Drugs ).

Based on the results of a survey by the BNN RI and the National Research and Innovation Agency (BRIN) in 2021, there were 3,6 million drug abusers in Indonesia who are of productive age. This figure has increased from 2019, which was at 3,4 million. Meanwhile, the current condition of DIY is in the fifth position for the highest prevalence of drug abuse in Indonesia after North Sumatra, South Sumatra, DKI Jakarta, and Central Sulawesi. This is a truly concerning condition.

As an effort to prevent and eradicate narcotics abuse and illicit trafficking, the Head of the National Narcotics Agency of the Republic of Indonesia has created a War on Drugs policy, both through Soft, Hard, Smart Power Approach and Cooperation strategies, as conveyed by the Head of the DIY BNNP, Susanto.

"In this context, we see the importance of cooperation with PT TWC which is engaged in the management of Borobudur Temple, Prambanan Temple and Ratu Boko Palace tourism objects, which have strong potential in disseminating messages about the dangers of drugs to the public, especially visitors to the Temple Tourism Park," said Susanto.

Furthermore, Susanto expressed the hope that with this joint action and synergy, all potential resources can be maximized to disseminate information and education on the Prevention and Eradication of Abuse and Illicit Trafficking of Narcotics and Narcotics Precursors. The principle of combating narcotics is not only limited to catching criminals, but also convincing the public to have an understanding and awareness that narcotics are very dangerous.

PT TWC is ready to support the steps of the DIY BNNP in its efforts to realize P4GN, with the spirit of togetherness in realizing the Borobudur Temple Tourism Park, Prambanan Temple and Kerayon Ratu Boko BERSINAR (Clean from Drugs) destinations.
